Daily Journal Continued July 13,1998, By-William Thomas Thompson This Monday morning is clear and Summer hot. My car is still in Earl's Auto.Air Shop for the 3rd time he has rebuilt it and the 5th time I have rebuilt it in one year. This old car with mill-ion miles needs to be given away to a person that really needs a car if I can get it running good,With all it has cost for a new motor and air conditioning although Earl's work is guaranteed. Bible school opened last night and I had to move all my paint supplies out of the bus so they could clean it up and out. It looked good even though some seat fronts only had blank faces painted and may not get much more for now because I have a dead line to paint art for the big Hambidge Center show this weekend at Rabin Gap Georgia near Dillard. I have never been one to plan much ahead and sometimes the Lord changes my direction and pur-pose suddenly. I believe we are to wait on the Lord for our daily instruction and pray for divine guidance. I have only a few cases of small canvases left to paint and then I want to switch to all heavy canvas with heavy framing so it appears stronger and should not ever warp. I am resigned to do God's will and not my own. I want so much to paint huge displays like the drive-in art museum in St.Augustine but that is hanging now by a thread as I try to please everyone and wind up pleasing no one. I am resolved. Johney Jones has left the area and in the week he was here,he went through about $1,000.00 counting what he made and what he took. The church Pastor fixed him a place to stay at a vacant house if he would only cut the grass but when he cut part of the grass, someone stole the lawn mower, that is what he said happened. "The wages of sin is death."wages of a wicked man buy nothing, his word is worthless and his presence is as a flame of destruction. Disney's head was on 6o minutes last night explaining that the boycott by the Baptist has not hurt them,Michael Eisner who looks like Dracula's cousin is more than a friend to the gay world. Who would ever have dreamed that sodomy would have been an issue with anyone or that such people would ever come out of cover. Pat Robertson is said to have predicted trouble for Disney. The fires are so much like the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah that God destroyed by fire in Abraham's time. The principles revealed in the Bible are there for all times,God does not ever change. In painting on the bus I see a community gone down from how I remember it as a child. The house next door has a dog with pups and the dog has mange and is in misery. I went to the feed and seed store and purchased a bottle of mange cure. All it is,is oil and water for $6.95,or at least that is all the dog hide needs to cure mange is old motor oil. They said the vet wanted $800.00 to treat this dog. I am not surprised. A vet charged us $200.00 on a dog in recent years and failed to cure. As the dog suffered near death I went to this same store and purchased a spray can of simple mange spray for $3.50 and one spraying cured the dog. As of late today the family had not use the solution. Daily Journal Continued July 14,1998, By-William Thomas Thompson God has no lazy people in his kingdom. Early to rise on this day of burial of our dear cousin Gracie T Painter who lived at Mauldin,S.C. and daughter of my fathers half brother James Henry Thompson of Fountain Inn,S.C.,We took flowers to her funeral at Cannon Funeral Home in Fountain Inn at 11am. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord, works follow them" With the show"Stan"on T.V. for the last two nights showing all of the ghost of a nation gone dead from a mystery virus starting in an East Texas town, with the Last nights news of frogs dying all over the world after reporting earlier on the deformed frogs and with the President today acknowledging we have a major computer problem coming up that may shut down the beast of government,I say it is time to take Revelation Prophecy serious and begin to pray. Clinton like Nebuchadnezzar calls his smart men that know nothing about how to resolve this problem. They have bet on the wrong horse, paid the wrong piper and missed the boat of salvation of a nation gone mad with more problems then can ever be solved. The only real permanent poverty are those that know not God. After working in the neighborhood painting in the bus on the old Buncombe road in the run down area of San Souci,I have been sure educated on poor and how these people live. The streets around the church building are all loaded with cars that run or do not run and the streets are the public playgrounds. There is constant traffic in and out. This reminds me of the little mill village of Conestee where I assisted my brother years ago to take down his gospel tent and no man in the village wore a shirt. This reminds me of a drive through Harlem's 8th Ave. where you must weave in and out to miss all the parked obstructions that block the street and limit traffic flow. Terms come to mind that I have heard in recent times of "trailer trash" in referring to low class living areas and especially trailer parks. Another term often used is "white trash" describing people who live in and about conditions like this although this neighborhood is a mix of white, black and spanish with no trailer parks. All this area from the industrial South was multi mill villages with typical mill built houses on hills and now about half are removed with the land vacant includ- ing our uncle John Dupree who worked for years at the American Spinning plant that still stands but his house on Sizemore street is gone. About a stones throw from here is the site of the old Poe Mill. We purchased some solid brick out of that mill only to learn the hard way that they were for inside walls only. When wet and cold they would freeze and disintergrate. Then through the 2 tunnels that holdup the railroad track and about 3 long blocks I am at Earl's place and my car is finally ready with cool air a blowing across my ribs and dust covered everything. Earl's place has everything,a restaurant and auction house next door. Trailers and lots of cars. Earl can fix everything and does for the town. What goes on here is like watching a major movie in any given day every minute of every hour. Earl should charge admittion to see. Poor in mind is poor in body,Give us the mind of the Lord! I feel for these people but they seem happy and content. There seems to be little or no real future for children raised in this type of casual life but what future do we as a nation also have?
